International Women’s Day Event for Princess Lalla Meryem
As the Chairwoman of the National Union of Moroccan Women (UNFM), Princess Lalla Meryem yesterday hosted a national meeting in Rabat to mark International Women’s Day.
During the meeting, which held the theme “Non-violence culture against women: prospective vision”, Lalla Meryem delivered a speech that praised the “endeavours and efforts on the path of safeguarding social and human rights achievements” of the women of Morocco.
The attendees – including the Moroccan Minister for Solidarity, Women, Family and Social Development Bassima Hakkaoui, and representatives of the United Nations – heard the Princess also pay tribute to members of the royal family who devoted time to women’s rights, children and individuals with special needs: the late Princesses Lalla Fatima Zahra, Lalla Aicha and Lalla Amina.
Lalla Meryem has long worked for women’s rights, and became a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in 2001.
