Concert at the Romanian Ateneum in Honour of King Mihai I

Every year on the 8th of November the Romanian Orthodox and the Romanian Greek-Catholic Churches celebrate Saint Michael and Saint Gabriel. HM King Mihai I usually celebrates his birthday more on this day than on the 25th of October, when he was really born at Foisor in 1921.

On the 8th of November 1945 was the most famous celebration of King’s birthday because hundreds of thousands of Romanians were in front of the Royal Palace in Bucharest in order to proclaim their trust and love to their King. The communists were furious and brutally injured a lot of them.

Different Romanian Associations (Alianța Națională pentru Regatul României, Alianța Civică, Institutul Român de Istorie Recentă, Tineretul Național-Liberal, Fundația Horia Rusu, Fundația Corneliu Coposu, Fundația Culturală Memoria, Fundația Culturală Erbiceanu și Inițiativa Tinerilor pentru Modernizarea României) have organized this year a special moment in honour of the Romanian King: a royal concert at the Romanian Ateneum in Bucharest.

The special moments were made by different Romanian artists as Dan Grigore, Mariana Mihuț, Victor Rebengiuc și Ioana Cristina Goncea, together with the historian Dinu Giurescu and Marilena Rotaru.

The Royal couple was represented by HRH Princess Margareta (accompagnied by her husband) and the event was honoured also by the presence of different Romanian politicians such as Calin Popescu Tariceanu (ex prime minister from PNL), Crin Antonescu (leader of the PNL), Theodor Paleologu (ex minister of culture from PD-L), Victor Ciorbea (ex prime minister), Radu Campeanu (ex President of PNL).

In his speech (view a video here), Crin Antonescu (one of the two main leaders of the opposition) underlined his royalist option and said Monarchy is no longer a “feeling option” but a “rational option” and can become a real project. He also wanted to pay tribute to all those who were injured on the 8th of November 1945. He made his greetings to the King on the occasion of the 8th of November.

Another wonderful speech belonged to the young Romanian historian Filip Iorga, a speech that went really to the hearts and to the minds of all the participants of this special event.
