Princess Ferial of Egypt Passed Away

Princess Ferial, the eldest daughter of late King Farouk of Egypt, died on 29 November after a long battle against cancer. The princess died in a hospital in Geneva, Switzerland, where she had been receiving treatment for stomach cancer.

HRH Princess Ferial Farouk was born on 17 November 1938 at Montazah Palace to King Farouk I and Queen Farida. Princess Ferial had two younger sisters, Fawzia (1940- 2005) and Fadia (1943-2002), and a half brother Fuad (1952), last King of Egypt and cureent claimant to the Throne, born from her father’s second marriage to Queen Narriman.

After the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, when her father was forced to abdicate, Princess Ferial moved with her family to exile in Italy. She was educated privately and later she attended the finishing school Grand Verger in Lutry, Switzerland.

Ferial got married in 1966 with Jean-Pierre Perreten at Westminster, London. The couple had one daughter, Yasmine (1967) although the marriage later ended in divorce.
The Princess will be buried at the Khedival Mausoleum in the Rifai Mosque in Cairo.
