A royal yacht is so very useful, not least in Norway.

Yes, and both the King and Queen have actually said that they are totally dependent on Royal Yacht to perform their roles, especially in a country like Norway.
The Regent couple also used the yacht when they were on their annual County Visit last week, and as you can see in some of the photos in the thread below, she's a real beauty: http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums...its-44961.html

More about the Queen's visit to Skudeneshavn and Avaldsnes today:
80 min video from much of her visit to Skudeneshavn - Karmøynytt
I had actually translated the titles on these two photo-galleries to English and everything, but I didn't had the time to post it before now, and then iceflower was here before me.

HM also granted an ordinary audience to the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and two farewell audiences to the outgoing ambassadors of Germany and Canada.
NTB is only allowed in to take pictures of formal audiences or audiences with foreign heads of states, ministers, leaders of organizations, and winners of the Nobel Peace Prize. - But they are not allowed in for other audiences, so there are no photos of it.

Thanks, Royal Norway & Iceflower.
Yes, she's a beauty - the yacht.
I really appreciate the Swedish and Norwegian fondness for national and local attire. It adds something extra to such events. A more colorful note if you get my meaning.
I wish we in DK used the local attires more, but they are basically only used by traditional dancers, more or less in the background.
Greenland and the Faeroe Islands on the other hand are almost fanatical about their traditional attire. I like that.

There is actually an exhibition at the Queen Sonja Art Stable now, where several royal bunads are exhibited, and I recommend everyone who are in Oslo this sommer to visit it (I plan to do it next week BTW).
Read/watch about it here: http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums...ml#post2125237

Article from Oskar Aanmoen: King Harald and Queen Sonja attend military tattoo in Oslo Royal Central
Quote:
His Majesty King Harald and Her Majesty Queen Sonja watched Thursday afternoon His Majesty the Kings Guard perform in the Palace Square from the Palace Balcony at Royal Palace in Oslo. Over a thousand people had met up to see the show lasting for 30 minutes.
|
Quote:
His Majesty the Kings Guard is the Norwegian Kings lifeguard and the largest department in the Royal Norwegian Army. The Royal Guard is also a part of the city defence of Oslo and is prepared to support the police in crises. After the bombing of the government quarter in 2011, more than 700 guards were in armed action to support the police in the protections of the Government Quarter and other important buildings in Oslo.

Well, we know that he doesn't like to talk about it, but 6 engagements for a frail 81-year-old in one day???? Hmm????
Yes, most of them inside the Palace, but still.

 Thanks iceflower!
First: Isn't he cute? - And yes, I know I'm talking about an 81-year-old man, but still.
Second: Universitetet i Tromsø (UiT) - Norges arktiske universitet (The University of Tromsø - The Arctic University of Norway) is the world's northernmost university, the third largest in the country, and the largest research and educational institution in northern Norway. It was established in 1968, and opened in 1972 and is one of eight universities in Norway.
UiT's location makes it a natural venue for the development of studies of the region's natural environment, culture, and society.

Quote:
The Queen welcomed the guests to the opening this afternoon. “It is a great pleasure to welcome you into the universe of an artist whom I, along with so many others, deeply appreciate,” Queen Sonja said in her remarks to the guests, who included established goldsmiths and jewellery artists as well as young people studying to become artisans themselves.

And here's an English article from Oskar Aanmoen: Queen Sonja opens new exhibition in Queen Sonja's Art Stable – Royal Central
Quote:
After being closed for a few weeks, Queen Sonja’s Art Stable in Oslo is now open again with a brand new exhibition. It was Her Majesty The Queen who opened the brand new show on Thursday evening. During the summer, visitors could see the Norwegian national costumes which are privately owned by the members of the Royal Family. Now a new and more modern exhibition has taken over the old stable buildings. The new exhibition is named “Tone Vigeland, Jewelery and Sculpture”.
Tone Vigeland is an internationally recognised pioneer in jewellery design, which in the 90’s moved on to create sculptures. Metal is her favourite material, and the works combine the hard material with soft shapes and different textures. The exhibition shows jewellery from the period 1956 to 1998 and sculptures from 1998 to today.
