Buckingham Palace 1: Ending Sep 2022

On this ground floor plan the room above is called the dining room. It's possible that the room used for the interview is the one called the library between the dining room & the Council Room (now called the Bow Room).

The only other logical location for a "south" drawing room would be in the Blore wing on one of the three principal floors overlooking Buckingham Palace Rd.

It's puzzling because I think those rooms including the dining room mentioned are not in the private area of the building. I kind of assumed the south ddrawing room would be in the front section - looking onto the Mall. On one floor are the suites of Anne and Andrew. Thanks for the reply.

Yes it could be - the front section is the Blore wing which I mentioned as being a possible location. If it is the Blore wing/front section it would presumably be on one of three principal floors facing south over Buckingham Palace Rd. On the floor plan that would be bottom left:

Thank you. I think you are probably right - maybe the top floor. If only there was a floorplan as I don't think Emily Maitlis' will divulge.

Apparently Buckingham Palace Gin is now available to be sold to the public, and it will be served to guests at future Palace functions. There’s a picture of HM drinking some clear beverage from a glass that is either water or a BIG serving of the house gin! I think that’s what Town and Country wanted me to think, and I did get a small chuckle from it.

I'm not a gin drinker but if I was, I'd be wanting to order this stuff right quick! I think the Royal Collection Trust has hit on a winner here.

Looking at the picture of the Queen taking a drink, with what I know about the Queen and how things usually are done and served the "correct" way, I'm going to wager my bet that she's drinking water. The article states ""The recommended serving method," it read, "is to pour a measure of the gin into an ice-filled short tumbler before topping up with tonic and garnishing with a slice of lemon." If that's the correct way to drink gin and Dubonnet, then that's the way the Queen would have it served up.

Me? I'm less a stickler for convention and a Mason jar would do. :lol:

Fantastic documentaries on the interiors of the palace.



 
It might be some time before we a lot of the grand State rooms used again at Buckingham Palace.
 
I recall an announcement was made back in late Spring that Buckingham Palace and all other royal residences would remain closed to the public for the rest of this year. The Tower of London I think did open during the summer.
 
The history of the ballroom at Buckingham Palace which dates from 1856 during the reign of Queen Victoria.

 
Edward VII of course didn't like all that old fashioned decoration & had it all replaced with lashings of white paint & gilding. Like the Ritz!

So all of those other interesting contemporary interiors such as the Ball Supper Room & the East Gallery were also lost.

The 'Masterpieces from Buckingham Palace' Exhibition but seeing as the exhibition is closed to the public here's an insight from the curators.

What an extraordinary exhibition! And open until Jan 2022!!

As the curators say it's a fantastic opportunity to see pictures at eye level & well lit. The famous Vemeer "girls at piano" is a real standout. I hadn't known that George IV was a collector of C17th Dutch art & that was the reason why he had Nash include a (eventually leaky!) top lit picture gallery in the palace.
 
And wonderfully curated and the history explained and artists named.
 
Yes both curators are excellent. Interesting that the Rubens self portrait, bought direct from the artist by Charles I, was not sold by Cromwell.
