The 84-year-old former queen must recover for eight weeks.

Paola therefore has to cancel the official activities she planned in the coming weeks, the palace reports."

After a Fall how sad her right arm . This is very painful and takes times.
I hope she will recover completely !
I was so happy to see her so well at the Mass 17 February .

King Albert was hospitalized following surgery:

"King Albert II has left the hospital, which he entered last week for a routine check-up. At the end of the latter, the doctors decided to perform surgery, indicate our colleagues from the DH.

The King remained hospitalized for a week. He was visited by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde. Still according to the DH, Albert II is doing well and is being followed by his doctors. Questioned by our colleagues, the Palace refused to comment out of respect for medical secrecy."

Wish King Albert II the very best :previous:

Their Yacht Alpa IV is finally sold. We don't know the price paid !

Alpa IV was bought for 4.600.000 euros
King Albert II wanted to sell it in 2021 for 1.950.000 euros and then 1.700.000 euros .
The buyer is a luxe boat company from Turquie. The price is unknown.
The King wanted the Government to pay its costs but they refused . They paid when he was King!

I'm glad that the government refused to pay it,seems like old Albert II has more money than common sense.

Queen Paola attended the inauguration of the new premises of the European Catholic Home in Etterbeek on 11 November

According the journalist Wim Dehandschutter:

"Queen Paola, 85, hands over her life’s work to her daughters-in-law: Mathilde succeeds her as honorary chairwoman of Missing Children Europe protection committee. No official succession (yet), but Claire attends the meetings of Paola Foundation."

What a nice visit,Queen Paola of Belgium in black and not white!

She has to wear black for a private Visit.
For an Official Vatican Event , the Queen of the Belgians has the privilège du blanc.

How they treated their children waa the lowest of the low.

Feel so sorry for their 3 children.Very sorry indeed

While no one denies, clearly, the deep impact the family situation had on the children and the sons in particular and that some of the things that happened in their childhood were unacceptable, I don't think it's fair to be harsher than the children themselves regarding their parents. Princess Astrid is clearly very close to them, was instrumental in their reconciliation, 40 years ago, and has spoken publicly about how much she loves them. Paola was also present for the births of Astrid's children, for example. Also, in the vrt documentary about Laurent Paola (not Albert) is actually depicted rather favourably, also by the couple of "foster parents" Laurent was with during his teenage years, as a mother who cared and was worried for her youngest son. In the third episode (available on vrt website) also Père Guy Gilbert recalls he first met Laurent through his mother, who was worried for him. Last year, all three children took part in the good documentary about their mother, where both her and Albert were quite candid in admitting their past mistakes. King Philippe says how proud he is to see his parents happy together and that was quite touching to hear

It is indeed very very moving to see the complicity and genuine affection Paola and Albert have for each other into their old age. Most people are never able to make amends, but they did, thanks to Princess Astrid, who seems to be a Saint. King Filip didn't grow into a resentful man with a victim complex either, he built for himself a dream family and seems to love his parents very much, and even Prince Laurent has said -in reference to the documentary- that there are people who had it much worse than him.

In fact, there was another person in the family who did more damage to Laurent than his parents. But that person is dead, and one should never speak ill of the deceased...

Lovely, it's wonderful that despite their mobility problems, they don't rot away in Belvédère, nor try to steal the spotlight from their son.
What a great King and Queen Emeritus. I guess they'll visit Donna Paola's relatives if hey haven't already.
