Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday ahead of his official visit to Denmark later this week, Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan has pledged to devote himself to the duties that come with becoming Japan’s Emperor.

“I would like to give my whole heart and soul to every duty, including official duties I have already inherited from His Majesty,” the Prince said, when he was questioned about the constitutional role of Emperor in connection with the Japanese Parliament passing a law last week to allow his father, Emperor Akihito, to abdicate.

“While serving many years as a symbol of the people, the Emperor has tackled his tasks extremely seriously, taking every one of them close to heart and sincerely seeking out how his ideal role should be,” Prince Naruhito said of his father’s reign.

The Crown Prince is set to become Emperor of Japan upon his father’s abdication, which is to take place within the next three years – December 2018 is being touted as the likely date.

A Japaneswe is, by nature, totally devoted to his duties, no matter how small or great these duties might be. No one would expect anything less of any average member of this orderly, highly disciplined and deeply devoted Japanese society. When we speak about a member of the Imperial Family – the future Emperor for that matter – one would naturally expect a thousand times greater commitment to His duties.

I wish TTIIMM Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko a long happy life from now on, and to Their son, heir to the throne and soon to become the future Emperor, a great success in fulfilling His many duties.

Best wishes to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan in His life mission !
