The Duchess of Cornwall had an intriguing day at the South of England Show on Thursday, what with all the knighting farm folk and petting stick insects she did.

During her rounds of the show grounds, the Duchess came across Farmer Giles (actor Callum Arnott) who all but demanded the Duchess knight him – which she quickly did, with a leek. “‘Is that it? Just on the one shoulder? Oh, you’re not the Queen, you can’t do two,” Farmer Giles quipped after Camilla tapped the leek on his shoulder.

Further on, Camilla – who got around the show on a golf buggy – was given the opportunity to view special insects and creatures. She was game enough to have a giant stick insect crawl up her left arm, but declined to pet a spiny tail lizard. The Duchess also presented showjumping prizes.

Camilla, resplendent in a pale blue skirt suit with matching silk scarf, was visiting the show to celebrate the South of England Agricultural Society’s 50th anniversary.

The Duchess is the President of South England Agricultural Society. The Queen is its patron.
