Japan’s Princess Aiko Completes Her Junior High School Education
Princess Aiko of Japan today graduated from junior high school in a ceremony at the Gakushuin Girls’ Junior High School in Tokyo. Attending the ceremony were her proud parents, Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako.
The 15-year-old Princess briefly spoke to reporters upon her arrival, saying that she had “enjoyed the past three years because I was fortunate to have good teachers and friends” at the school.
Aiko’s essay for the graduating class’s yearbook was also released by the Imperial Household Agency. The Princess wrote about her wish for world peace and her thoughts that came from a school trip to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. “As the only nation to have the atomic bomb dropped on it, there is a need for us to widely transmit to the world what we have seen with our own eyes and felt…I pray that some day, in the not too distant future, a world without nuclear weapons will emerge and the ‘Flame of Peace’ in Hiroshima can be extinguished,” she wrote.
