The Cambridges Attend Victoria Cross Commemoration In Manchester
On October 14, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a memorial ceremony in Manchester for recipients of the Victoria Cross, where paving stones in honour of the soldiers were unveiled.
The six soldiers who were honoured for “valour in the face of the enemy” after fighting in World War One were George Stringer, Albert Hill, Henry Kelly, John Reditt, John Thomas and Graham Lyall.
John Thomas’s daughter, Ruth Reilly, said that she thought it was “an absolute honour” when she heard that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were attending the commemoration. She then went on to say about her father, that, “I know he would have been proud that I am here today for him”.
Earlier in the day, the Cambridges visited the National Football Museum, also in Manchester.
