Order of the Thistle Service Takes Place at St Giles’ Cathedral
The 2016 Order of the Thistle service has taken place at the St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, attended by the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince William and Princess Anne.
Wearing their ceremonial robes, they were joined by the other Knights and Ladies of the Order for the service ahead of a lunch at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The Order of the Thistle is Scotland’s highest order of chivalry, and is the second order in the precedence of the United Kingdom following the Order of the Garter.
It honours Scottish citizens who have “contributed in a particular way to national life” or previously held public office.
