Princess Beatrice Admits ‘School Was A Nightmare’ During Youth Charity Visit

Princess Beatrice of York has spoken of how her dyslexia impacted her time at school today during a visit to School 21 in East London with Holly Branson.

The visit was made to help raise money for youth projects supported by the charity Big Change, which was started by Beatrice and Holly – with a group of others – in 2012 to support projects that assist young people to develop crucial life skills in non-traditional education settings.

During their time at the school, they attended a poetry session and listened to stories of the students they met about how they have been assisted. Beatrice shared her own difficulties at school, saying it was “a nightmare” for her because of her dyslexia: “My earliest memory is trying to read Beatrix Potter and the words were literally jumping off the page.”

But she said it was “good to be pushed out of your comfort zone” to help develop your skills in comfortable and appropriate settings.
