The flags on the Royal Palace in Oslo were half-mast today.

Born on June 9th, 1930, Princess Ragnhild was the eldest child of King Olav and Crown Princess Märtha. Due to the male precedence, she was not entitled to succeed to the throne. She grew up at Skaugum, near Oslo. On May 15th, 1953, she married Mr Erling Sven Lorentzen in Asker Church. The couple moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the same year, where they lived a rather quiet life. She still had a close connection to Norway and went home for important occasions or enjoyed the summer holidays at Ostøya in the Oslo Fjords.

The Princess is survived by her husband and their three children, Haakon, Ingeborg and Ragnhild, as well as five grandchildren, Olav Alexander, Christian Frederik, Sophia Anne, Victoria and Alexandra.

According to the Norwegian Royal Court, “the funeral service will be held in the Palace tChapel. The date and time have not yet been determined. Princess Ragnhild will be laid to rest at Asker Church in Norway.”
