I just was looking at your avatar Dazzling, and after a 2nd look I must say I like the purple coat, and white and red dress combo Mary wore on the recent Danish tour/royal cruise. Not as much as when she combined the coat with a black dress, mind you, and I still don't like the dress by itself.
This outfit still was not my favorite of the tour, but she still looks nice!

Heartmade Juliefagerholt
here is a photo of scarf in the COLLECTION , click LOOBOOK, first photo the carf I think it is the same fabric as the shirt Mary used in Africa so may be the shirt it is from heartmade?

That scarf is indeed identical to the green top Mary wore on her last day in Africa. Thanks for sharing.

Good on you for spotting this...So my theory of it being a locally made gift goes out the window...Danish made especially for Mary all the way!!

Mary in a purple coat, hat, gloves with a nude lace dress underneath & nude shoes.
Each piece is stunning, especially the coat & the dress.
I am not sure the combo looks right, especially when looking at the weather during the event, the lace dress is clearly evening wear and I would have chosen a simple dress/skirt/top/turtleneck to wear under the coat.

At a first glance one is left wondering yet each individual piece is indeed lovely. However, because it is Mary and because she gets away with being slightly daring, I do think the combo works and brings together a sophisticated look. I do love her brooch and hat. So very elegant. Interesting and very different shades to bring together as well.

The coat looks black along with the purse. Discombolutated to me, I too love all these pieces, but this looks "hurried" Mary pulls this off because of her perfect grooming as always!

:previous: The coat has always appeared black to me.

This isn't the first time Mary has worn this ensemble (I believe last year sometime), be it with the same hat, but in black, and her fawn gloves. She wore the same brooch which compliments the outfit quite well. A lovely statement piece.

I love this look. It romances the mind. It's all very indicative of a 17th century Nordic noble woman having just returned from an early morning ride. The hat and open knee length day coat provide formality and structure. The cream lace and black pearls are feminine and delicate. The lace being especially sumptuous and elegant.

She looks wonderful.

Mary is amazing! So modern and fresh, yet she can do the occasional historic reference, and do it with elegance and taste! Glad she is back in circulation!

I'm not sure how I feel about this outfit. Like you say Duke of Marmalade each seperate piece is just lovely but together I don't know, perhaps it'll grow on me like Victoria's wedding dress did.

I think you are right about the dress. It's beautiful, but maybe a little too sheer for this event and weather. Her coat, hat and gloves are absolutely gorgeous! Very nice color on Mary.

I love the coat, the hat and the dress - but not the turtle neck type dress with that coat.

I really love the coat and brooch. The shade of the hat seems to clash with everything, in my opinion. The only part of the dress that I'm not feeling is the turtleneck. I think a neckline that is a little lower would have looked better.

You are right about that - Mary has worn a similar combination before in April 2010.

** April 2010 **

Mary looks absolutely stunning!! Love this whole outfit!:flowers:

I love it! i love her hats, pity we can not see the dress better!

The dress is gorgeous, but it looks too much with that coat and for that event. I don´t like the combo at all.
And I hate the colour combination. As Daria_S said, the look was so different with the black hat. Purple-black-beige combination look ridiculous to me.

Mary today was really elegant. I like dress & coat but I prefer them worn with the accessories that Mary has used on April 2010.

I don't like the overall combo. There is something about the dress that screams "cocktail" to me. Plus given the weather, it just didn't work. If I had been her, I would have called an audible and done a last minute change. I'm sure she would have had another appropriate dress that would have worked with the coat, hat and gloves.

Mary is so lovely, she can hardly go wrong. But this outfit whispers "just a little fussy" to me.

The coat and the dress are lovely, but it didn't get the purplish colored hat. For some reason the outfit didn't flow from the neck up.

Yes, Mary was on the VF best dressed list in 2010. And I for one liked this combination. Mary rarely misses, and shows a good bit of "dash" in putting outfits together. She has the confidence to carry this off, even if there are those among us who might question one or another element of this particular outfit.

Mary looks elegant. The only piece I could do without are the gloves.

When Mary's clothes remain consistent with current trends, are of the finest quality and have been worn only once or twice previously, it would be considerably neglectful of her to not recycle.

She isn't so frivolous as some would have her be, thank goodness.

The combination of the coat and dress is lovely but I find the purple hat and the pinkish gloves a bit too much. You had pink, purple, nude, black going on. Nude gloves would've worked very well.
