MR NELSON MANDELA AND HIS SERENE HIGHNESS PRINCE ALBERT II
OF MONACO “UNITE FOR A BETTER WORLD”
Mr Mandela was pleased when H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco agreed to host a major fundraising initiative in Monaco for the benefit of the charities closest to their hearts.
On 1 and 2 September 2007, two historical fundraising events will take place in the Principality of Monaco. A Private Lunch at The Prince’s Palace for 10 select donors, followed by a Gala Dinner attended by 350 guests each contributing €3,500. All funds raised will benefit Amade Mondiale, Nelson Mandela Foundation, Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, and The Mandela Rhodes Foundation.
Acclaimed Academy Award-nominated, Emmy, SAG, and Golden Globe-winning actress - Ms Alfre Woodard, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies at the prestigious Gala Dinner, with entertainment provided by Grammy Award-winning and Golden Globe-nominated singer - Mr Wyclef Jean, accompanied by accomplished South African performer - Dozi, and talented emerging opera singer – Siphiwo Ntshebe.
The dinner will be followed by an auction handled by auctioneers Sothebys. Items on auction at the event will include personal memorabilia donated to this end by the Royal family and Mr Mandela. Among others….the football boots used by Wayne Rooney during the 2006 World Cup, one of the original vests worn by Carl Lewis when winning an Olympic gold medal, an exquisite hand-made quilt containing offcuts of Mr Mandela’s famous signature silk-shirts, Drumheads signed by the world renowned singer and musician Santana, a statue of Mr Mandela and last but not least a piece of lime stone originating from Robben Island where Mr Mandela spent 23 years of the 27 years of imprisonment. The lime stone is beautifully decorated with diamonds from South African soil, set and framed to be a once-off collector’s item. Prince Albert II will donate some personal belongings for the auction such as paintings, watches, a set of jewels etc. Guests attending the event will include high profile dignitaries like Bono, Naomi Campbell, Morgan Freeman and others.
