Princess Muna: Current Events 1

see an earlier post by maryshawn in this very thread:

"Roland Dallas' book "King Hussein," says they simply grew apart. The king was caught up in many political issues and spent a lot of time away from their home. Dallas implies PMuna was a great mother but lacked the interest in political affairs and this created further estrangement (however, I take this with a grain of salt as it didn't seem he spoke a great deal about politics with QAlia either; QNoor says they spoke of it often). Dallas says KHussein was "ripe for the picking," so to speak, when he met or became re-acquainted with QAlia (he'd babysat for her) at a buffet. It was that old "love at first sight" thing--and, after he'd asked her to join him in opening the buffet, he began to pursue her and divorced PMuna and married QAlia a day after the divorce on Dec. 25, 1972. "

maybe thats why King Hussein and Princess Muna seem to have had a respectful relationship even after the divorce. If it was mutually decided that the marriage wasnt working then obviously there weren't any or as many hurt feelings.
It might also explain why Princess Muna seems to have a good relationship with King Hussein's children from his other wives, and from the pictures I've seen, with Queen Noor as well.

"I think its only natural for Americans to relate to someone they see as "one of their own," someone who was born and raised in the US and went on to become a Queen."

True, it's probably the same reason why most Aussies are so interested in Mary.

Good point. I also read the same feeling happened in Mexico with Letizia, who used to be a resident in Mexico. During their visit as visiting royals to Mexico I was reading the spanish language mexican newspapers online and they talked about Letizia like Princess Mary was talked about in the Austrualian newspapers. So, there is a degree of bonding to a particular country even if you were not born there.

Does anyone know if Amira (Princess) Muna speak fluent arabic?

It is one of my few criticisms of King Hussein. I can only chalk it up to immaturity or extreme bitterness or a combination of the two. Any other thoughts? It seems decidedly out of character for him, doesn't it? He never seemed cruel but this did happen and it was cruel. I thought very highly of Princess Muna for arranging the reconciliation or whatever one wants to call it which led to the reunion of mother and daughter. I may be wrong but I'd read in several books, Roland Dallas' "King Hussein" being one, that she was the one who helped sway his thinking in this area. That was most thoughtful and kind of her to take an interest in this matter. It speaks well of her. I guess it speaks well of King Hussein, as well, for having the grace to reconsider his position. He could have dug his heels in and refused to relent but didn't.

I didn't know that, maryshawn, but I can't say I'm surprised by it. Princess Muna coems across as a very caring woman.

if princess mona changed KH there - i have a great respect for her in this case!
i think she as the mother of his children - and as his wife - had this kind of influence in such cases and its nice to hear that she used her position for that!:)

Well, it takes a very kind, classy woman who has a great deal of empathy to show such caring and commiseration for her husband's first wife. She could've ignored it and not gotten involved and just focused on her own family with KH but she didn't. It impressed me greatly!:)

Princess Muna.

Hi, people:

I always got interested in non-European royal houses, and especially in the Middle-East ones. Noor of Jordania is one of my favorite Queens.

However, I'm interested in the fate of Princess Muna, for I read an article at "Point de Vue" (a French royal magazine) that spoke about King Hussein's wifes and she was mentioned there. I already knew al the other King's wife, but not this one and I can't find any good info about her. I only know that she was named "The little English" (La petite Anglaise) and that gave children to Hussein. However, I couldn't find why she didn't got the title of "Queen", and why her children are not accepted as royal princess at the same title than their siblings. I also saw few pics of Muna, and can't said if she remains alive or if she is dead.

Hi Vanesa, welcome to the forums:)
The topic of Princess Muna not getting the title of Queen has been discussed before, I think you can find it at the beginning of this thread, as well as info. about her and pictures. Needless to say it was decided not to give her the title at the time because of the political situation, and the fact that she was English. I have also read that King Hussein's mother, Queen Zein, didnt want Muna to have the title for that same reason.
As for Princess Muna's kids, all of them have royal titles of Prince and Princess and her eldest child is King of Jordan at present.
And she is very much alive, as you can see from recent pictures in this very thread.

Thank you for the info! I'm happy that her son had became the King. She fully deserved it.

I'm surprised about the fact that Princess Muna is rarely criticized. She must have been a really good wife and mother for it! And I'm sure you should have been a great Queen too. How a pity that Hussein and Muna 's marriage wouldn't work! :(

Vanesa.

After the divorce, where did her four children live, with her? or with their father and his new wives?

Also when Queen Alia died would Muna have helped take care of Alia's three children as well as her own?

I know that most of the time all these kids were off at boarding school but when they were too young, or when on holidays with whom would they stay?

I am also glad her son became King.... Princess Muna is my favorite. She put her children before anything else, but i always think she didn't get the credit she so deserve....Just shows you how great of a women she really is. Wish there was more information on her and her childhood. Wonder, if she will ever write a book like Queen Noor did. Would like to know more about her as a person. One Classy Lady......................

I agree. She has always been discreet, dignified, and I feel, accepting of all other members of the royal family.
She still keeps a low profile but its good to see her performing official duties every now and then.

I am an admirer of Muna as well, she was somewhat cast aside by King Hussein but she remained faithful to him and to Jordan. I am glad that her son is King. Muna but the way deserved the title of Queen as much as Noor did. I also read that Queen Zein never warmed to Noor as well.

To me is Queen Noor not american but halve syrisch and halve sweedisch.

It is interesting in her autobiography Leap of Faith Noor barely acknowledges her Swedish heritage and only focuses on her Arab roots.

I can understand Noor very well. I have lots of roots: Spanish, Italian, French and Austrian...And in the case of Spaish and Italian and French heritage, I have roots in many places of Spain, Italy and France...In the South, center and North of all these countries. So, it's hard to be faithful to ALL these roots. I, personally, feel more close to my French roots, and also to the part of my Spanish-French family that came to Argentina in the 1600's, not so much to the family who comes directly from Spain in the 1860's and 1900.

I have a great understandin for Noor. One can't be close and feel exactly the same to all our roots. Generally, one choices what we really likes opr goes along with our characters.

I think it is very classy on Princess Muna's part to stay in Jordan and carry on with engagements. I obviously do not know what happened with the King and her but I always felt that she was "dumped" by him.

of course, .....KA is her own son, and so he allows his mum to live in Jordan and to work in Jordan, while he did not allow QN to do the same... - I found out a Newsweek interview to Queen Noor who says she would have liked to live in Jordan, after KH's death, but she could not.......
