I didn't follow the Royal Family so closely back then, but Sophie seems to me to be a far less controversial/ more conventional bride than Meghan. In fact, I can't think of any plausible reason why the Queen or anybody else in the RF would have objected to Edward marrying Sophie, regardless of his position in the line of succession.
Well, she did say she was delighted.
Yes, that´s what she always "says" in official statements when it comes to engagements or royal births.
Why would it had been controversial to marry Sophie...?! She was neither divorced nor a soap starlet. Sophie had her own company and was already an integral part of the RF before she married Ed, getting perfectly along with both the Queen and the Qu.mother.
He has spoken to Meghan's father a few times, haven't met in person.
Indeed, I was pleasantly surprised by them. Lots of bonus points from me after seeing and listening to them.Very good interview from the couple. It was beautiful to see them together. Very well spoken.

Article here from the BBC with quotes and a short video link (don't know if this is visible outside the UK).
Pleasantly surprised by this interview and by Meghan, she seems quite down to earth actually.
Another? Which was the first one?
If the queen truly thought that this would be a big mistake, it would be worth it to escalate things and 'find a solution'. However, as I said above, she allowed Charles to marry Camilla... so I really don't see the problem and am surprised that the issue is even raised by some.
She is a TV actress and a a social media personality. She should be quite comfortable then with cameras and public speaking. It doesn't surprise me at all.
