Christmas Speech of King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden
On Christmas Day, December 25, King Carl XVI Gustav held his annual Christmas speech. The speech was broadcasted on Sweden’s Radio and Television.
In the Christmas speech, the King spoke, among other things, about the violence in society and the wars in our world, but also about unifying symbols such as the Swedish flag. The King said:
Blue and yellow are also the colors of our flag. The Swedish flag symbolizes our values, our freedoms, but also our obligations and our responsibility towards others. We have every right to think differently. We protect freedom of opinion, but the great freedom is based on respect and tolerance.
