The Dutch State Visit to Austria Ends in Graz

On Wednesday June 29, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima spent their last day of the state visit to Austria by visiting Graz, capital of the state of Styria. The Royal Couple travelled to Graz by train and accompanied by the President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen and the First Lady, Doris Schmidauer. Upon the arrival at the train station of Graz, they were received by the governor of Styria, Hermann Schuetzenhoefer and his wife Marianne.
Then the King and the Queen, along with the Presidential Couple, paid a visit to the headquartes of the AVL company, “one of the world’s leading mobility technology companies for development, simulation and testing in the automotive industry, and in other sectors”. During the visit they were informed by the employees and the CEO, Helmut O. List, about “the sustainability of motorized transport, innovations in e-mobility, autonomous driving, hydrogen applications and battery technology”.
Afterwards the Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple where received by the mayor of Graz, Elke Kahr, at the town hall where took place a meeting and the signing of the Golden Book of the City of Graz.
At Alte Universität Graz the King and the Queen, along with the President and the First Lady, attended a discussion focused on “the importance of women in the sciences” followed by a luncheon hosted by the governor of Styria.
The last event of the state visit took place at the Murinsel, an artificial floating “island” in the middle of the Mur river. There the Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple attended a presentation focused on the Radoffensive Graz, a project that aims to promote a more bicycle-friendly Graz by 2030.
