Queen attends church service as Prince Philip is still in hospital

On December 22, the Queen attended a service at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham with the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their two children, Lady Louise Windsor and Viscount Severn.

Prince Philip, meanwhile, is spending his second night at the King Edward VII Hospital in Marylebone, London for observation of an existing medical condition. On Friday, the 98 year-old royal travelled from Norfolk to London where he has been staying for the past couple of days.

A spokesperson said that Prince Philip “had a bit of a wobble” a few months ago, though had otherwise been fit and healthy beforehand, before then adding “his mind is as sharp as ever”. It was reported that he had joked with doctors and nurses whilst he was being checked upon at the hospital.

The then Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark was born on 10 June 1921 in Corfu; Greece to Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark, the fourth son of George I and Queen Olga of Greece, and his wife Princess Alice of Battenberg. After he was educated at Gordonstoun School in Scotland in 1939, Philip, now known as Philip Mountbatten as the Greek monarchy had been deposed, spent time at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth before he graduated as the best cadet in his course. He then went on to serve in the navy and married the then Princess Elizabeth of York in 1947.
