Last Wednesday, as well as meeting a delegation from the European Regional Office of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent, Crown Princess Margareta of Romania handed out awards to volunteers of the National Red Cross Society of Romania as part of the celebrations for the Organisation’s 140th Anniversary.

The volunteers all wore their distinctive red and white uniforms to collect their awards, with Crown Princess Margareta reflecting the colour-scheme in a bright red, fitted jacket and white skirt!

During the ceremony, Crown Princess Margareta gave a speech in which she said:

“In 140 years, the Red Cross has transformed people’s lives and society has mobilized to help those in need, to change destinies and enliven communities.

Red Cross projects cultivate respect and friendship between people and between generations. It’s a dream come true to have over 5,500 volunteers involved in projects run by National Red Cross Society branches.

I wish that more Romȃni to follow suit.

I congratulate and thank everyone for their dedication, commitment and energy to helping those less fortunate.”
