Prince William Presents Shamrocks to Irish Guards (As Kate Stays Home With the Kids)

As Colonel of the Irish Guards, the Duke of Cambridge today presented the regiment with sprigs of shamrock to mark St Patrick’s Day, the day of the Guards’ traditional regimental celebration.

Over 600 Irish Guards were present at the event held at the Cavalry Barracks in Hounslow. He distributed the shamrocks to warrant officers, and pinned a sprig to the Guards’ mascot, Domhnall the wolfhound.

After posing for a group photograph (which somehow included a selfie with a Guardsman), the Duke spent time meeting with soldiers and their families.

The Duchess of Cambridge has typically attended the event either by herself or alongside her husband since they married, but opted to stay home with her children this year.
