Denmark’s Prince Nikolai today celebrated his confirmation into the Lutheran faith during a private ceremony at the Fredensborg Palace Church.

Bishop Erik Norman Svendsen, the Royal Family’s confessor and personal priest, oversaw the confirmation of the eldest grandchild of Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik. Prince Nikolai’s immediate family were all present – his parents and stepparents, siblings, paternal grandparents, uncles and aunts and some cousins. His godparents – the Earl of Wessex, Peter Steenstrup and Camilla Flint (Nikolai’s paternal uncle, Crown Prince Frederik, and maternal aunt, Nicola Baird, are also godparents) – were also all present.

Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik hosted a luncheon following the confirmation at Fredensborg Palace. Before the lunch, the main party – the confirmand, his parents, siblings and grandparents – posed quickly for the press on the Palace steps.

Official portraits to mark the occasion will be released later this afternoon, Danish time.
