Prince and Princess of Asturias Celebrates Larra’s Bicentenary
Yesterday evening in Madrid the Prince and Princess of Asturias presided over the opening of the activities to commemorate the Bicentenary of the birth of Spanish writer and journalist Mariano José de Larra.
Among other activities, there will be a cycle of conferences in the Cultural club of Madrid, a meeting about Larra at the International University Menéndez Pelayo of Santander, and exhibitions, round tables, and a congress about mass media in Avila. All the acts are hosted by the Ateneo Científico, Literario y Artístico de Madrid Honour committee, whose presidency is held by Their Royal Highnesses.
The Princess of Asturias is a great admirer of this writer, born in Madrid on March 24, 1809. On 2003, then Letizia Ortiz give to her fiancé Prince Felipe as an engagement gift a special edition of the book El doncel don Enrique el Doliente, a novel wrote by Larra in 1834.
