The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, has accepted the resignation the prime minister and his cabinet, Kuwaiti official Television reported on Monday.

Kuwait’s government resignation comes after the Islamist lawmakers submitted three requests to question Prime Minister Sheikh Naser Mohammed Al Ahmad Al Sabah on political crisis. It is the fourth time the cabinet has resigned in two years. The last cabinet resigned in November after a similar request to question the prime minister, who has been accused of mismanagement.

Questioning the prime minister has never been allowed in Kuwait and the current one, Sheik Nasser al-Mohamed al-Ahmad al-Sabah, is the emir’s nephew.

The emir may either appoint a new prime minister or dissolve Parliament which would lead to early elections.
