Princess Margriet, Princess Laurentien and Princess Astrid Attend Award Ceremony

On Tuesday February 08, Princess Margriet, Princess Laurentien and Princess Astrid were at the Royal Flemish Theatre in Brussels to attend the ECF Routes Princess Margriet Award.

This award from the European Cultural Foundation (ECF), in collaboration with the Ministries of Education, Culture and Science and Foreign Affairs, was this year awarded to the artists Sejla Kameric and Kutluğ Ataman. Both laureates are artists and filmmakers, and they have been particularly distinguished for their work in the field of cultural diversity.

Princess Laurentien, as President of the ECF, held a welcoming speech; while Princess Margaret presented the awards. Princess Astrid of Belgium was also present.

The Routes Princess Margriet Award is an annual event celebrating the achievements of artists, activists and thinkers who help us understand and appreciate Europe’s cultural diversity.

The ECF has been working for more than 50 years for cultural cooperation in Europe. The Routes Princess Margriet Award was created in 2008 to mark the departure of Princess Margriet as President of the ECF.

In conferring the award, thinkers and artists are honored by European audiences for their work. Princess Laurentien is the President of the ECF, she succeeded Princess Margriet in 2007. Princess Margriet previously held the position for over 24 years.
