On Monday, HRH attended the opening of the annual conference at the WHO building in Copenhagen. Here, Princess Mary spoke to those in attendance about her involvement with WHO. “My primary focus has been on raising awareness of vaccine-preventable diseases and immunization,” Mary said, before going on to discuss her 2008 trip to Slovenia for European Immunization Week: “Close to 2 million vaccines were administered during this week, and an impressive range of advocacy activities were held.”

That evening, Princess Mary attended the Danish Health Minister, Jakob Axel Nielsen, -hosted reception for the committee’s participants at Kronborg Castle.

On Tuesday evening, the Crown Princess attended the reception held at the Copenhagen Opera House to mark the meeting. Upon her arrival, Mary was due to be presented with a bouquet of flowers from a young Hungarian girl named Valeria. Valeria, however, became shy at the prospect of handing over the flowers, and clutched them to her chest, using them as a shield to hide her face. HRH quietly spoke to the girl, and coaxed the flowers out of  her hands, before both parties posed for photos, Valeria clearly now more relaxed.
