Dutch Royal Family Christmas
Christmas this year will probably be a difficult one for the Dutch Royal Family, so soon after the death of Friso. I wonder where they might spend it, and if Mabel and her daughters will join them?

The Dutch Royal Family never reveal their private plans for holidays, so this is just guessing on my part:
It could well be that Princess Beatrix will spend Christmas and New Years at castle Het Oude Loo in the woods near Paleis Het Loo in Apeldoorn.
She uses that castle often as a weekend retreat and is one of her most favorite places.
It is also near the house of her sister Margriet, who is also going through a difficult Christmas because of the serious illness of her son Bernhard.
I think it is most likely that Princess Mabel and her daughters will spend Christmas with Beatrix, just as Prince Constantijn and his family.
I am not sure about the King and Queen and their daughters. It could be that they are spending the holidays with Princess Beatrix or with the Queens' parents in Argentinia, which they usually do.

Do we know if the King and Queen & family went to Argentina this year or was Christmas spent in the Netherlands?

I would have thought that his 1st Christmas as King would be spent at home.
picture from his Christmas address.

King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, Princess Beatrix, Princess Mabel and their five girls have spent some Easter holidays at the Villa in Tavarnelle, Italy, this month. On April 18 they were pictured in a café in Florence.

This is a breach of privacy and good chance for a succesful lawsuit, especially because minors (the three princesses and the two countesses) and non-members of the Royal House (Mabel) were pictured during perfectly private pastime outside any official framework.

In the clip it is mentioned that Q.Juliana and P.Bernhard were not able to stop that decision and deeply regret it.

The issue began earlier. Irene who fell in love with Carlos in Madrid, converted without even telling her parents. Would have been shocking enough without how they found out. A picture of her kneeling for communion hit papers, how her parents found out. They couldn't stop her converting as they didn't learn till after. The fact Carlo was also believed to support Franco added.
Juliana thought she convinced Irene to come home, and announced on radio, but the airplane sent for her came back empty. The couple wanted to get her, but parliament forbid them to go to Spain, thinking Irene was Franco's pawn. Her dad went alone, bringing her and Carlos back, where Irene gave up succession rights. Her involvement with Franco was publically shunned by cabinet and family.
The couple married in Rome, but no Dutch came. Her family watched on tv at Princess Armgard's house (Bernhard's mother). Armgard was catholic but she chose not to go either. Armgard lived in Netherlands with her life partner and former stable master Alexis, a Russian ex-pat who was the Only dutch athlete in 1956 Olympics. Bernhard's dad died in 1934, 3 years before he wed. Alexis, who taught him to ride, escorted the widowed Armgard to the wedding. Armgard's 2nd marriage to Bernhard sr (1st to a count she divorced) was morganatic and she was only countess on marriage. Her sons were born Counts. In 1917 her BIL Leopold, Prince of Lippe, elevated her and her sons to Princess/Princes.
Irene of course made peace. When she divorced, she brought her kids home and lived with her parents. Claus and Bea were big in their lives.

Plus in the middle of all the engagement upheaval,Irene was supposed to go on a State Visit to Mexico with her parents and sister Beatrix. At the last moment she didn't show up at the airport and kept everybody waiting while they received a message from her saying in as many words that due to the recent situation she'choose to remain with Carlos Hugo and thus cancelled the trip for her part,to the huge disappointment & grief of her parents.
Queen Juliana,Prince B and Princess Beatrix finally left without her and the B-P family, old Xavier and the family, stayed at Soestdijk Palace still...and not just that...they tookover the place!!So much so to the immense annoyence of the courtiers and staff whom were ordered around like if the BP's owned them.Until finally, one staff member called Prince Bernhard in Mexico and complained about the BP's...That set an infuriated Prince Bernhard to get to the next phone, called the Palace and told the BP's to immediatly leave the Palace...Things never were the same after old Xavier was told off....The Dutch Royal Family made up with both Irene and Carlos Hugo not too long after the wedding on april 29th 1964 in Rome, one day before Queensday at that time...The young couple was soon seen holidaying at Porto Ercole with Juliana and Bernhard.
Despite their differences and desillusions,Irene and Carlos Hugo kept in touch, and after the pain of the divorce subsided, they were in touch especially on the education of the children as they lived with their mother here in NL.Carlos Hugo for his part was still held in high esteem by the Dutch RF and was more often then not in attendance at the main family events.Irene and the children at first lived at Soesdijk Palace for a while, then she purchased a villa close to the Palace and later moved to Wijk bij Duurstede. The children attended the International School in Amsterdam/Amstelveen and did very well there. The grandparents and uncles and aunts from Irene's side where very important to them, they were/are very much loved.
He,Carlos Hugo, lived a quiet live, very sober too.The friendliest and kindest of persons,a very warm human too.He had a very special way of welcoming someone, taking someones hand with both his hands. As a token of how much the RF cared for him Queen Beatrix send the government aircraft to Barcelona after Carlos Hugo died of cancer there and flew him here and he was lying in State at the Fagel Pavillion in the gardens of Noordeinde Palace. All,all Members of the RF came to pay their respects there which was a very moving sight indeed.
After that he was flown to Italy and the interment took place there in the presence of members of the RF and Princess Irene.
