State Visit from India to the Netherlands – Day One
At the invitation of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander, the President of the Republic of India, Ram Nath Kovind, and his wife, Savita Kovind started today, Tuesday April 5, a two-day state visit to the Netherlands.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima officially received the President and his wife with a welcoming ceremony held at Dam Square in Amsterdam. The King and the President inspected a guard of honor and the national anthems were played.
Afterwards, in the Royal Palace, took place a receptions for Dutch and Indian authorities followed by the laying wreath ceremony at the National Monument on Dam Square at the presence of Mark Rutte, the Dutch Prime Minister.
In the evening, the King and the Queen hosted a State Banquet for the President and his wife. Princess Beatrix was among the guests. Prior to the start of the state banquet was observed a minute of silence for the victims of the Ukraine war.
The King, in his speech, stated that “Now that an unprecedented nightmare is unfolding close to our country, it is crucial that we maintain strong contacts with our partners in the world. India is a very relevant partner for the Netherlands”.
