Spain’s King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia have headed celebrations to mark Armed Forces Day, attending the events held in Guadalajara, central Spain.

The King laid a wreath in memory of fallen Spanish servicemen and women, after reviewing a military guard. He and Queen Letizia then watched a military parade comprised of over 2,500 members of the Armed Forces that concluded with a display from the Acrobatic Eagle Patrol unit of the Air Force.

Following the parade, the King and Queen hosted a reception for the three divisions of the Armed Forces and the Civil Guard at Niña Maria Adoratrices School.

Armed Forces Day was first instituted in 1978 to commemorate the sacrifices of the Armed Forces, and “encourage the knowledge and integration between them and Spanish society”.
