The Queen of Spain was present on April 18 at the 33rd Annual SM Children and Youth Literature Awards at the Real Casa de Correos in Madrid.

Wearing a simple black and white combination with her hair in loose waves, Queen Letizia awarded the ‘Grand Angular’ Prize to Fátima Embark Ali and María Mercedes Murillo and the ‘El Barco de Vapor’ Prize to Roberto Aliaga Sánchez.

She gave a brief speech during the ceremony, in which Letizia said that while the two winning books for this year had little in common, they shared “something essential: they hide many secrets…the secrets buried in the two books tonight, they are those that contain treasures”.

The awards are given by the SM Foundation to promote children’s literature, and encourage a “taste for reading and disseminating human, social, cultural or religious values to help build a dignified world.”
