King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima Visit the Region of Twente

Today, Thursday October 27, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima paid a visit to some municipalities in the region of Twente, in the east of the Netherlands.

The first stop was in Almelo where the Royal Couple was received in the City Hall by the Mayor Arend Jan Gerritsen, the Mayors of the municipalities of Dinkelland, Losser, Oldenzaal, Tubbergen and the Commissioner of the King in the Province of Overijssel, Ank Bijleveld.

After a reception at the City Hall, the King and Queen went to the former Hagendoorn School in the Neuve Quarter where they met residents, business owners, professionals living and working in the district. Topic of the meeting were social problems affecting the district.

Later at the Polman Stadion the Royal Couple had roundtable discussion about social enterpreneurship with entrepreneurs and people involved in education. The Hercules Almelo Football Team, that plays in the Polman Stadion, promotes a social project that aims to reintegrate former detainees in the labor market.

Then King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima moved to Tubbergen, in the North of Twente. There they visited the nature reserve Springendal and the Laundry Dry Cleaning Springendal. This laundry is famous for its environmental care. In the municipality of Tilligte the Royal Couple visited the farm Boerderijcampus. The farm, established in 2003, is a care farm where are currently living 12 people affected with disabilities but it also offers daytime activities and a riding school.

In Losser the King and the Queen visited the stable Stal Het Oosterbrook runs by the international show jumper Gert Jan Bruggink.

The last event was in Oldenzaal where, after a walk through the historic town center, the Royal Couple participated in a roundtable discussion at the JW Racer Huis at the presence of the Mayors of the municipalities of Dinkelland, Losser, Oldenzaal, Tubbergen. The meeting was focused on the developments in Northeast Twente in the fields of entrepreneurship, tourism and sustainable agriculture.
