Queen Rania Receives The Walther Rathenau Prize

In recognition of her work as an outstanding advocate for peace and understanding between East and West, Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan was awarded on Thursday the Walther Rathenau Prize.
The prize was presented to Her Majesty by the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel during a ceremony held at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.

Queen Rania dedicated the prize to the people of Jordan. She spoke to the audience who attended the ceremony and said “I am humbled to accept this prize. And I do so on behalf of the people of Jordan who, every day, through their words and actions, demonstrate the values that defined the life of Walther Rathenau. Values such as courage, compassion, equality, understanding, tolerance and mutual respect; in other words, basic human decency.” The queen also highlighted the Syrian refugees crisis & Jordan’s efforts to alleviate thier sufferings despite the scarcity of resources and the problems of poverty and unemployment that Jordanians suffer.

 

Chancellor Merkel also spoke during the event and mentioned Queen Rania as a “bridge builder,” highlighting her majesty’s work in building bridges between cultures. She also describing her as a shining role model who deserves worldwide recognition”, as Petra News Agency reported.

 

he Walther Rathenau Prize was started in 2008 in honor of former Gerrman foreign minister of the Weimar Republic who was assassinated by opposition in 1922. It is given to award the outstanding personalities who have made remarkable contributions to international politics and dialogue.
