Prince Salman Appointed Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia

Following the funeral of the late Crown Prince Nayef Al Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has appointed his brother, Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, as Crown Prince, deputy Premier and Minister of Defense.

The new Crown Prince who is the second Saudi heir in less than a year, after the death of his brothers, the late former Crown Princes Sultan and Nayef, was born in 1935 as the 25th son among King Abdulaziz Al Saud’s children. His mother was Hassa Al Sudairi, the daughter of Prince Ahmad bin Mohammed bin Ahmad Al Sudairi, Governor of Washm, Sudair, Qassim and Aflaj.

Crown Prince Salman served as the Governor of Riyadh for 48 years and was appointed Minister of Defense in 2011, replacing his brother, Crown Prince Sultan.
