Princess Laurentien Presents her Second Book

On Wednesday February 2nd, in the colorful Oceanium Zoo in Rotterdam, the presentation of Princess Laurentien’s second book, “Mr. Finney and the Other Side of the Water”, took place. Along with the Princess, with her were there her husband, Prince Constantijn and her children, Eloise (8), Claus-Casimir (6) and Leonore (4).

A group of guests and five classes of the primary school “De Hovenier” in Rotterdam attended the launch of the new book. Climate change, rising sea levels and damage to the coral are themes in the book. In this book, the main character Mr. Finney is looking for solutions to environmental problems.

The themes which the book is also based on an island like Aruba topical, such as climate change, rising sea levels, the human consequences and the damage to the coral. Aruba is committed to renewable energy, both in research and societal support.

In “Mr. Finney and the Other Side of the Water”, Mr. Finney receives a distress call from Pinky Pepper on an island that threatens to drown and the animals try to flee. Mr. Finney has continued uninhibited but significant questions about how we treat the earth and each other. He goes above and under the water in search of answers and solutions. Mr. Finney and his friends are a great way for children at a young age to get acquainted with the importance of alternative forms of energy such as solar and wind energy.

According to the Princess, the book is a good way for children and adults to talk to each other. “Because Mr. Finney is looking for answers he puts the children to ask questions,” she explains. “I believe in the power of children’s right to ask questions.”

At the end of the presentation, actor Willem Nijholt read from the book. The first copy of the book was handed to two children and Mike Eman, the Prime Minister of Aruba. Prime Minister Eman stressed that an island like Aruba could be threatened by rising sea, “It is therefore important to counter global warming and rising sea levels.”

The book is on sale from Thursday, February 3rd. The first book of the series, “Mr. Finney and the World on its Head”, sold 25,000 copies since its October 2009 release.
