HRH The Prince of Orange returned from New York this morning.
The Prince will hand-out 6 International Awards for Arts and Sciences as well as 5 Awards for Young Dutch Scientists,
Beurs van Berlage,Amsterdam today.
The awards are bestowed on behalve of the Heineken Foundation and the winners
are selected by the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences.
The Science Awards consist of $150.000,the Art Awards $50.000.
Germany:Scientist Franz Ulrich Hartl (1957),receives the Heineken Award for Biochemics and Biofysics
Hartl is director of the Max Planck Institute for Biochemics,Martinsried Germany
Netherlands:Artist Mark Manders (1968),receives the Heineken Award for Art
USA:Scientist Ralph Steinman (1943),receives the Heineken Award for Medicine,
he discovered and researched the role of dendritic cells in the immunesystem.
Steinman is employed by the Rockefeller University NYC
UK:Scientist Rosamond McKitterick (1949),receives the Heineken Award for Historical Sciences
McKitterick is emploeyed at the University of Cambridge
USA:Scientist David Tilman ( 1949),receives the Heineken Award for Environmental Sciences
Tilman is employed at the University of Minnesota.
USA:Scientist Michael Tomasello ( 1950),receives the Heineken Award for Cognitive Sciences.
Tomasello is co-director of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionairy Antropology,Leipzig Germany.
The five Young Scientists Awards are awarded for the first time this year and go to:
