King Constantine (1940 - 2023)

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
If there even is a memorial service planned (wich i belive when i hear it directly from either the family or from official channels - and not from random spokespersons who represents nobody) i am surprised to hear it is supposed to take place at Windsor Castle, presumably in St George’s Chapel…. Then it would mean that KCIII is the host and not a guest… That would explain the delay though….

I thought it would be in the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in London with the Greek RF as host…

True. But why was this organized so late anyway. It is 1 years since the death of the late King. Is that usual for greek-orthodox Wonder why the did not organize something for autumn last year.

As far as i recall of Princess Margaret or the late Countess Mountbatten it was so 2-3 months after their death but not as late as over 1 year. I think with Prince Philip it was an exception because of the Pandemic.

For King Konstantinos there was a trisagion at the cemetery 9 days after his passing, then a fortieth day memorial (Mnimosino) at the cathedral, then another trisagion in Tatoi at the one year mark.

Next February 27 at St. George's Chapel Windsor, a Thanksgiving mass will be celebrated for King Constantine of Greece, presided over by Queen Camilla, and members of the British Royal Family.
At the event will be Crown Prince Pavlos, Queen Anne-Marie and other members of the Greek Royal Family and also members of other royal families.

Official Annoucement:

Meanwhile, the Spanish press confirms that King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, King Juan Carlos, Queen Sofía, Infanta Elena and Infanta Cristina will be present.

The Spanish Royal House has not confirmed the presence of King Juan Carlos. The Spanish Royal House has confirmed the presence of: Queen Sofia, King Felipe and Queen Letizia, it has not said anything about King Juan Carlos. A Spanish newspaper is the one who has added King Juan Carlos, however the media also does not have the confirmation of King Juan Carlos.

Again no Charles and William? What a shame!!
Charles is likely not allowed to socialize with hundreds of people while undergoing cancer treatments due to the risk of infections when his immune system is being low…

William may be there but Queen Camilla would still be the senior royal in attendance and the one ”leading the family”

This event that King Charles of England was preparing for his cousin King Constantine would have undergone changes. In January, Greek friends of King Constantine would have told a Greek journalist that he had received the invitation to the event on February 27, (January, 27 has never existed as a date, it was a mistake of a Greek journalist), in this first invitation, prior to January 10, it would be stated that they would be present on King Charles and Prince William in addition to other members of the Britain family. According to it has been described, it would be a more private event, with friends of the family, organizations such as the IOC and ISAF, Round Squared School, and members of royal Houses with family ties (this was the wish of the Greek Royal Family )But this event has obviously undergone changes.

After of these firsts invitations, King Charles announced his problems of health, he would not attend the event, because he must avoid contagion of viruses, and an event like this has a high risk of contagion...that is why on February 15, there would have been celebrated a meeting to inform Queen Anne-Marie and Prince Pavlos of the new changes, and this is when it would have decided by the British Royal House that Queen Camilla is who presides this memorial service. And it would be too at this moment when they also show Queen Anna Maria and Prince Pavlos their desire to invite the European Royals Houses.

The announcement, if you read it, only highlights Camila, because the rest of the British Royal Family are "members of the Family.. And I think, these changes of the British Royal House seem to be focused on highlighting the image of Queen Camilla. Could this have been the reason for the changes of 15 of febreaury ?

William may well be included within “other members of the royal Family” as Canilla is most senior after Charles. Its also likely they want to give get out clause if Catherine were to take a turn for worse/not have recovered enough or one of kids needed him etc. That way they don’t have to announce he can’t now go and cause media uproar and speculation.

Personally, I don't like this event because King Constantine was Orthodox, he was not Anglican.

A memorial service for King Constantine, whether performed by the British Royal House or the Greek, should be in the Orthodox Cathedral of London, by the Orthodox rite, with European Royal Houses invited, and the British Royal Family too...but an anglican memorial service by an Orthodox person????......

On the 28th there will be a memorial in the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Sophia in London open to the public, and sadly, the members of the Royal Houses who attend the great Anglican event will not attend this service, it is even possible that not even the entire Greek Royal family will attend....

And of course in St. George's Abbey at Windsor Palace, the protagonist is the Queen of England, not the Queen of Greece or her family...

Queen Elizabeth II also held memorial services in St George’s Chapel for late Heads of State and Garter Knights / Ladies… Not only for members of the anglican faith…

In the British Court Protocol King Constantine is a deceased Head of State (not a former head of state)

When I first read about this memorial service in Great Britain, it said that it was going to have a more family and friends character....as defined by Iris1983 in her message:unsure:. But, since it was published that King Felipe and Queen Letizia,Queen Sophia....the entire Spanish royal family would attend, this has caused everyone to start talking about a great royal event , however, reading the statement of the danish royal family where Princess Benedikta will be the one to attend this event , I begin to return to the first version, an event of the British Royal Family, with representation of the Spanish royal family, and the Danish Royal family.

Glad to see the event taking place after all, and especially in St George’s Chapel!

A pity Charles won’t be able to attend but I expect especially the Kent and Gloucester branches in full force.

I was surprised that Margrethe is not attending, since her schedule would seem a little lighter these days.

King Constantine was not just a relative (and from the point of view of the british Royal Family, he always remained a monarch!), but also a personal friend of King Charles for decades! I´m sure, the dashing, olympic gold winning Constantine was a role model for the younger Charles back in the 1960s. Charles took part in the wedding ceremony of the King and Queen in Athens and King Constantine was chosen to be one of the principle godparents of Charles´s eldest son. So, in that regard, remembering King Constantine is not about religion or denomination or about Constantine´s own faith, but King Charles´ way of honouring his late cousin for the very last time.

Isn´t this the usual royal way and a tradition of doing things like this? Autumn last year was no specific reason to mark the King´s passing, but exactly one year after is! Prince Philip´s memorial service was also held one year after his passing. And King Constantine´s private memorial service in Tatoi, Greece, has also been held just recently exactly one year after he died.
Charles and William (his own godson) didn't even attend his funeral. I truly wonder how close these people are or is it just the Greeks who like to show off their royal connections ?‍♀️

Again no Charles and William? What a shame!!
The King will not attend for health reasons. We do not know if Prince William will attend or not, there has been no public disclosure on the matter.

The Spanish royals are attending the service as members of Constantine's family, not really as representatives of the House of Bourbon. I do not know if the Belgians, Dutch and other Scandinavian royal families will be present.

King Felipe has arrived. Letizia flew from Valencia to Madrid.

How do you know that Queen Letizia flew from Valencia to Madrid?
She has been in Valencia, she arrived from Madrid, it is assumed that she also traveled on the flight to London.

The Official website of the Royal House has published this photograph of King Constantine along with a short biography and the announcement of the Memorial service . By the way, in the web side , the photos of the event will be published.

I don't want to speculate on the reasons that led the King and Queen not to travel together to the United Kingdom, they will have had their reasons there. But it could have been security issues, or Letizia could still have things to do in Madrid, or she may not have wanted to travel immediately to London and wanted to stay a few more hours in Madrid.

That website is not official, the information they give is based only on speculation and it is evident that whoever wrote it did not know that the King and Queen will be in London tomorrow.

King Felipe traveled to Valencia from Barcelona and Queen Letizia from Madrid, but later both traveled to London on the same plane, and the other plane returned to Madrid with the Minister who accompanied them on the visit to Valencia and with the Royal House staff who do not travel to London.

Looks like a nice morning for the Memorial service at St George's Chapel!

Doesn’t look like the eldest son of Pavlos and Marie-Chantal, Constantine-Alexios, attended the memorial service today.

It seems the eldest son of Prince Pavlos is missing too, as are Pss Alexia and family and Prince Nikolaus and Pirncess Tatiana.

Does anybody recognise who is walking behind Pss Theodora? Pss Alexandra perhaps, daughter of Prince Michel? She must be walking with one of her sons, Tigran or Darius Mirzayantz .

Is it known why the Edinburghs did not attend?

Nice that the other sister (Alexandra) of Pss Marie-Chantal could make it this time. I believe that at the funeral in Greece Pia Miller was there.

In the gtresnews gallery2 we cann see Carlos Morales, King Juan Carlos, Princess Benedikte, Prince Gustav and Princess Carina, Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg with husband, Queen Noor
