Who Will Reign Next

As who will reign next...hard to say for sure but at this point I'd put Netherlands and Luxemburg at the top of the list. I'd put Denmark at the end of the list. Belgium, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Luxburg (again) and Netherlands (again) will all come before. It will be interesting to see the transitions in the coming years for the rest of the monarchies at least. But imo there won't be any big jubilee for the Scandinavian heirs ever again.

How long do you think Margrethe will live. I don't see any abdication in the Netherlands and Belgium for the next 15-20 years.

She'll will herself to live to outdo QEII 70 years if she could imo. But that's just my opinion given her comment of being on the throne until she falls off. I'll refrain from voicing the optics that conjures. Frederik may become Charles part deux.

There may be 25th jubilee in Belgium, Netherlands and Spain given when the current monarchs took over and their ages at the time. However, I don't expect it in Norway, Sweden or Denmark. Luxemburg may still see jubilee of 25 years as well depending on when the Grand Duke decides to step aside and Guillaume takes over.

Of course the above could be altered if an unforeseen event occurs.

And finally...this is my opinion on the matter. I'm not trying to impose it on anyone nor invalidating anyone else's thoughts on the issue. These are simply my views on the topic of this thread. Let me say that as a preemptive measure as I know the responses already. :flowers:

Gut saids 90 had Philippe indicted at all he intends to step down in the future for Elisabeth at all I thought Albert stepping down was a one time thing

And about Eswatini, who's the crown prince?

its a elective monarchy

What the future of the monarchy in Cambodia?

Who will be the successor to the current king?

Elective monarchy we dont know

I have alot of respect for a monarch that knows when it is time to step aside and allow the next generation to step up and move the monarchy forward. A good leader showing some selfless self-awareness is also part of duty and service because it puts the monarchy and RF first.

I think people overestimate the odds of Philippe Addicting 20 to 30 years from now

From what I can gather it's one of the last absolute monarchies

There about 14 possible future kings from the current king sons

I agree. King Philippe is a "young-ish" version of a 63 year old man. He seems(so far) to have avoided the early health and cardiac issues that have plagued the Coburg male line. He doesn't smoke-that I am aware of- and he seems fit.

I will be surprised if he abdicates before the age of 80 years, by which time the Duchess of Brabant will likely be married with a family.

He is a traditionist though so don’t be surprised if he dieds on the thrones and that is his right if he so wants too

Next should be Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg. And then it must be Prince Haakon of Norway (but I don't believe King Harald V would give up).

Is an abdication of King Mohammed VI of Morocco possible?

Going back to this thinking of the gen z royals I believe Elisabeth is the most ready ((like if Philippe died a I think Elisabeth right now is able to handle the job but emotionally and other things not so much))

Elisabeth, in addition to being the most well prepared heir of her generation (my opinion only) also seems pretty mature for her age. Even as a little girl she had a serious and "grown up" aura. Her parents were taking her on walkabouts when she was barely preschool age and she never had that deer-in-the-headlights look some small kids get around strangers.

I have no doubt that the Duchess of Brabant could take over immediately if necessary, but for the sake of her ability to experience a carefree personal life first I hope it's many years before she does.

Maybe Prince Hans Adam II will be the next to abdicate as he is turning 80 this month and Alois has been the regent since 2004.

Liechtenstein has no tradition of abdication. Hans Adam is Sovereign in name but Alois has been running the country for 20 years. Had he intended to abdicate, he would have done so much earlier. He himself was regent for 5 years, until his father passed away at the age of 83. So, by now, he was truly in charge for a shorter period than Alois has been regent, i.e., 20 years (5 years as regent and 15 years as reigning prince).

Alois (b. 1968):
Regent: 2004 - now

Hans Adam (b. 1945):
Regent: 1984-1989
Reigning prince - without regency: 1989-2004
Reigning prince - with regency: 2004-now

Franz Joseph (1906-1989):
Regent: 31 March 1938 - 25 July 1938
Reigning prince - without regency: 1938 - 1984
Reigning prince - with regency: 1984-1989

Not 14. While the king has 14 sons many as inelligible to be king.

Estiwani is unique its not the heir who is elected but his mother. A wife is chosen as the 'she-elephant' a position of power, and it will be her son who ascends.

1. wife can not be one of his ritual wives which he has 2-this eliminates 6 sons
2. Wife has to be in good standing at court- 3 wives have left him but only 1 has a son

There are 7 sons ranging from 36 to 4 this year elligible based on their mother, to succeed.

Cambodia you have a wider range as heir can be any male over 30 from one of two royal houses. The last three kings have been sons of the king though not the eldest. But as the king is celibate that is not happening. Interesting to see if one of his nephews is chosen or another royal.
