Duarte, Duke of Bragança, traveled to the Island of Porto Santo in order to participate in the celebrations of the 600 years of the Discovery of the Island and to meet with the Monarchists of Porto Santo as part of an initiative of the Royal Association.
On November 1, All Saints' Day, His Highness was warmly received by the local and regional authorities of Porto Santo and by the national authorities (President of the Republic).
In the morning he attended the Solemn Mass for the Commemoration of the 600 Years and in the afternoon His Highness went to the Experimental Field of Agriculture of the Island where he learned a little more about the activities of the agricultural sector and the reality of the local farmers.
On November 2, Mr. Dom Duarte was the guest speaker for the opening of the conference "600 Years of Globalization: Madeira in the Portuguese Maritime Expansion", with a speech on "The Luso-Descendant Communities of Asia and its connection to the Diocese of Funchal ".
It was very interesting to follow the voyage of the Portuguese then, from Portugal through Africa to Asia, spreading culture, affirming itself in the East and giving great importance to the role played by the Diocese of Funchal in the missions of the Jesuits
Soon after the intervention of His Highness, the Royal Association of Madeira and Porto Santo provided a "Real Merenda Portossantense" with the Monarchists of the Island, with a significant participation of monarchists and living forces.
On that occasion, Dom Duarte met several craftsmen who honored His Highness with offerings representative of their work, in a strong manifestation of support for the Portuguese Monarchy.
