It looks like it will be a busy State Visit Spring for the King and Queen.

No State Dinner or something like this hosted by the mexican President?

The King and Queen met yesterday journalists from Mexico at the Royal Palace.
The journalists are on a temporary visit to Sweden, and will accompany the Royal Couple on the state visit to Mexico.

"The day that Queen Silvia gave me a Childhood Bracelet... On February 22, the Royal couple of Sweden received me at Stockholm Palace with the Mexican delegation of journalists who were specially chosen by the Swedish Embassy in Mexico to travel to the country, before the state visit of TM King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia."

The King and Queen met today representatives from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and received information ahead of the upcoming state visit to Mexico.

From March 12 to 14, Sweden's monarchs will be on a state visit to Mexico and will meet with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and businessmen from both nations to strengthen the flow of investments in various sectors.
Gabriela Frías analyzes the interest that both countries have making business together with the Swedish ambassador to Mexico, Gunnar Alden.

Why are the King and Queen hosting a Banquet and not the mexican President as Host of the State Visit?

That's indeed weird. Why is the host not organizing a banquet in their honor on the first night? I guess the dance performance is hosted by Mexico, although it is unclear who will show up from the side of Mexico.

Based on this program there will be an official welcome by the President but anything else seems unclear in terms of the participation of Mexico's head of state. No goodbye ceremony is included either; they just 'leave' the next day according to this program.

Its a rather peculiar State Visit and feels more like an Official Visit.

Indeed a very peculiar visit; having to organize your own dinner and posing with your own ambassador instead of being received by the head of state of the host country... At least the president was willing to have lunch with them. Previous Mexican presidents have been much more forthcoming and involved in state visits. I guess he wants to make a point that he is different?!

I agree with An Ard Ri that branding this as an Official Visit would have been better.

Obviously the King and Queen have been invited to a state visit. This visit seems very similar to the state visit the President of Finland made to Mexico in 2015, also then there was only an official welcome ceremony and a lunch with the President of Mexico.

Today, on the last day, the king and queen travel to Mérida to, among other things, visit the ruined city of Uxmal.
They should have arrived by train with "El Tren Maya", which many critics call the "train of death". A demonstration against this was planned to take place outside the Swedish embassy in Mexico City today.
The court removed the train journey from the program.
Both local residents and international organizations are worried about Tren Maya's environmental impact. After initially promising not to cut down a single tree, the government later announced that 3.4 million trees had been felled to clear the way for the railway and environmentalists claim that the actual number is significantly higher.

The King and Queen arrived to Mérida Airport and were welcomed by Yucatán Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal with wife Maria Eugenia Ortiz Abraham. They inaugurated the airport's new official lounge.

Svensk Damtidning about the President not attending the dinner the King and Queen hosted on the first day.
Boel Lindbergh, Head of the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs' International Press Centre, says that the presidential couple doesn't participate in dinners. There were several representatives of the government present. As far as Lindbergh understands, the president retires early in the evenings. She doesn't know of any specific reason for that.

On Wednesday Queen Silvia had a meeting with Arturo Medina Padilla, the Undersecretary of Human Rights, Population and Migration, of the Ministry of the Interior and lawyer and human rights defender María Luisa García Andrade, who was recognized for her work supporting and defending the human rights of the victims.

In the private meeting, Arturo Medina Padilla reiterated the willingness of the Government of Mexico to continue with the collaboration and consolidation of the shared agenda between both countries in terms of human rights and expressed that the visit of the royal couple “reinforces the character of cordiality and mutual understanding.”

Boel Lindbergh, Head of the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs' International Press Centre, says that the presidential couple doesn't participate in dinners.

Of course they had to be technically invited but presumably these visits come about as the result of the respective foreign affairs staff having discussions.

If Sweden really wanted the visit to happen for business reasons they may have pushed for it and wanted the royal couple to participate. I recall Carl Gustaf going fishing in Mexico a few years ago, so maybe he has an affinity for Mexico and wanted to be involved.

It seems like there was ample precedence for how the Mexican president does things and still the choice was made for this to be a state visit and yet not have all the pomp that usually entails rather than an official visit.

From the Business Forum, the King and Queen with all representatives of the Swedish companies at this visit:

The Royal Court has updated the article about the visit to its website:

The King and Queen spent the night at the Camino Real Hotel in Mérida and left from there this morning at 10.00. They made a quick visit to the Great Museum of the Mayan World before going to the airport.

When the president and his wife received the King and Queen to the welcome ceremony, the President's wife asked the King and Queen "Do you speak English?" ...

Interesting article about the state visit, which was originally scheduled to take place two years ago, but the pandemic prevented it. Also about what the president did and didn't do during the visit.

...Why did the Swedish Royal Family instagram just post a clearly photoshopped/AI-generated image of the King and Queen in Mexico? lol is this supposed to be a joke regarding the recent scandal in Kensington Palace?

Good to read an article from a Mexican perspective. It confirms what we already noticed, it was an affront to Sweden. Not only the president diminished it as much as possible (including pretending they were only coming on a touristic visit), but he and his ministers came up with the weirdest excuses not to participate in the various engagements that were scheduled.
