Summary of a number of articles in Billed Bladet #39, 2013.
All written by Annelise Weimann & Ulrik Ulriksen.
It all started with the DRF, with QMII in front wearing her Teletubby-full dress outfit waiting for the Vietnamese visitors at the airport. Unfortunately a republican hail storm interfered with the proceedings leading the plane, escorted by two F-16's to land fifteen minutes late.
Then it was off to Fredensborg. The last stretch being escorted by Guards Hussars and a wawing scene on the stairs of Fredensborg to the locals who had gathered outside to have a look at the show.
M&F are very much taking over from the Regent Couple, so the next day it was M&F who acted as tour guides for the Vietnamese guests. Mary took the Vietnamese first lady to a kindergarten, where they were presented to the Free from Bullying policy acted out by the children. The first lady, Mai Thi Hahn, then insited of a tour of the kindergarten.
The kindergarten called Humlebien = the bumble bee, is located in a more affluent part of Copenhagen.
Frederik in the meantime took care of the Vietnamese President, Sang, and they went on a tour of Copenhagen harbour together. While sailing along Frederik suddenly burst out: "That's where I live"! And pointed out the window, confusing the President until he realised he was looking at Amalienborg.
Later on they were shown the Little Mermaid. That is... The President had a little problem spotting the figure. She is after all little - and being grey, among grey rocks, above grey water and with a grey sky as background, one can hardly blame him.
The gala dinner? Just a few details: QMII's dress was by Birgitte Thaulow and her hair was done by her regular hairdresser, Poul Nejlund.
Our Marie wore a dress by Rikke Gudnitz.
Between Frederik and Joachim sat the PM, Helle Thorning, so one can only hope they have had their vaccinations updated...
Mary's LiW, Tanja Doky wore a dress by Marc Lecomte. Her husband who was also present is part Vietnamese.
Benedikte's dress was made by Wichmann Couture.
The Vietnamese gave a return dinner at Glyptoteket, a museum. Again QMII's hair had been done by Poul Nejlund.
Our Marie looked distinctly chic in her dress, while her husband must have had an accident with his suit so he was forced to show up in another and striped suit. One does not were vertical stripes if one is a tall slim gentleman. (If one wear horisontal stripes, one is unlikely to be a gentlemen...).
Frederik on the other hand must have studied the monthly edition of Gentleman's Attire, because he looked like a perfect accessory for his wife - except for the beard. Beard is for men who have a dense hair growth. Frederik does not have a dense hair growth, ergo the hairs ought to be plucked out one by one with a tweezer, that'll teach him!
First the guests were entertained by Vietnamese artists and singers.
Then it was time for the buffet. The DRF and the Vietnamese first couple dined seperatly but later on mingled with the other guests.
The whole show ended at 21.30 - just in time to get home to Amalienborg for the late evening news.
