It's lovely to see her commitment to the deaf and hard of hearing community included in this visit as well. And the visit to Machu Picchu must have been e a personal highlight of the trip.
[...] The princess listened to living national treasure Imaizumi Imaemon XIV talk about the kiln and watched craftspeople making receptacles and painting on them.
“What do you do in particular to make them into beautiful and smooth shapes?” the princess eagerly asked one of the craftsmen.
[...] In the Greek capital Athens, the princess will pay a courtesy call to President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and attend a commemorative event for the 125th anniversary, according to the Imperial Household Agency.
The princess's itinerary also includes visiting the Parthenon, situated in the World Heritage Site of the Acropolis of Athens. She is also scheduled to tour a facility for the hearing-impaired and an orphanage.
She will also travel to the island of Corfu in western Greece to attend a commemorative ceremony and visit an orphanage.
On her first day, Princess Kako visited the Parthenon in the Acropolis, a World Heritage Site in Athens, donning a blue blouse and white pants in honor of the Greek flag colors. She spent about an hour and a half carefully looking around. A Greek archeologist explained the restoration of the ruins to her and she enthusiastically asked questions while looking up at the huge temple.
[...] Dressed in a kimono, Princess Kako spoke at the ceremony on how Greek culture, including the Greek story collection “Aesop’s Fables,” has long been popular in Japan.
“I hope the mutual understanding and exchange between our two nations will further progress,” the princess said.
