She really is an asset to the imperial family.

Although her remarks might not be welcomed by everyone.

She is going to be missed whenever she presumably leaves.

Or will she in fact be a part of gender equalizing and get to stay....?

:previous: Unlikely with the slow pace of the government and unwillingness of the LDP and their allies.

On October 28th, Princess Kako visited Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara Prefecture. Wearing worship clothes, she arrived early to tour the main shrine and temporary Wakamiya hall. Then, she changed into a pink dress to view the restored sub-shrine Wakamiya Shrine which was completed in September.

Wakamiya Shrine holds objects of worship and undergoes a large-scale restoration called "Shikinenzōtai" once every 20 years. At night, Princess Kako attended and worshipped at the Senza-sai Festival, following the completion of the rebuilding. Gagaku music played and the sacred objects were moved to the shrine from their temporary location. Meals were offered at the altar and Princess Kako offered tamagushi, ending the ritual after more than 2 hours.

English article about Princess Kako at Kasuga Taisha's Wakamiya Shrine in Nara on October 28.

West Japan shrine's sacred object moved in ceremony attended by Princess Kako - The Mainichi
[...]

"Shikinen zotai," a large-scale renovation work conducted every 20 years, is underway at Wakamiya Shrine, an auxiliary shrine of Kasugataisha Shrine in the city of Nara. Repair work on the main hall, which is designated as a national important cultural property, has been completed, and the shrine's sacred object, or shintai, was returned there.

During the ceremony, held in the dark, priests holding lanterns proceeded along the approach to the shrine hidden behind cloths, and the shintai was placed in the main hall for the first time in about 18 months. Ancient Japanese court music echoed through the shrine grounds, and chief priest Hirotada Kasannoin dedicated Shinto prayers to the deity.

Princess Kako visited Ibaraki Prefecture on March 16. In the morning, she visited the Ibaraki Prefectural Mito Deaf School in Mito City and was welcomed by about 30 children from kindergarten and elementary school. Princess Kako met middle and high school students in the gymnasium, learning about their daily school life such as classes and club activities.

Later, Princess Kako attended a cherry (Sakura) tree planting ceremony at the original "Sakon no Sakura" site in Mito City’s Kairakuen Garden, one of the three great gardens of Japan. She also visited Kobuntei house at the park.

Ibaraki’s "Sakon no Sakura" began as a gift from Emperor Ninko about 200 years ago and was planted at Kodokan, a school of the former Mito clan. The Imperial Household Agency gifted seedlings in 1963 which the prefecture planted in Kairakuen Garden. The tree fell on September 9, 2019 during Typhoon No. 15. The agency provided new cherry tree seedlings from Kyoto Imperial Palace in March 2021 and the prefecture has been growing them. [NHK, Asahi, Jiji]

According to Sankei: Sakon's cherry blossoms are wild cherry trees planted near the Shishinden of Kyoto Imperial Palace. In 1831, Emperor Ninko gifted seedlings when a daughter of the Arisugawa-no-miya family married Nariaki Tokugawa, the feudal lord of the Mito domain. The Imperial Household Agency has provided seedlings whenever the trees died. Ibaraki Prefecture requested a donation after damage from 2019's typhoon.
