Princes visit Association Syndrome Down in its 30 anniversary
The Princes of Asturias visited today, in Marratxí (Majorca), the facilities of the Association Down's Syndrome of Balearics (Asnimo), the first one in be constituting in Spain dedicated to this disease, on the occasion of the trigésimo anniversary of the group.
Don Felipe and Dona Letizia crossed the center Prince of Asturias, Asnimo's headquarters from foundation, where they were informed by its director, Juan Perera, of the labor of investigation, sanitary care, formation and integration that it realizes the association, which attends to 412 persons with Down's syndrome in quite Balearics.
During the visit the Princes were accompanied by the presidents of the Govern inhabitant of the Balearic Islands and the Consell of Majorca, Jaume Matas and Maria Antonia Munar, respectively; the delegate of the Government, Ramon Socías, and first lieutenant of mayor of the Town hall of Palm, Francisca Bennássar, between other local authorities.
The tour began in Asnimo's greenhouse, where the Princes greeted a group of twelve workers with Down's syndrome and to their monitors, with whom they posed in a photo of group.
Later they visited the residence of the center, known as the home The Moon, where Don Felipe and Dona Letizia signed a letter of congratulation for the trigésimo anniversary of the association in the book of honor.
The Princes of Asturias also crossed the workshops of bakery and confectionary and flower dries - in that one forms the persons with Down's syndrome to elaborating ornaments with this prime matter-, as well as the classrooms of psicomotricidad, computer science and physical therapy, besides the center by day of Asnimo.
During the visit to these dependences, the monitors explained the pedagogic aims of the labors developed in the workshops and classrooms and answered to the questions of the Princes, who were interested for the applied technologies, the evolution of the pupils and their evaluation.
Before coming to the lounge of acts, Don Felipe and Dona Letizia greeted a group of 30 persons with Down's syndrome, with which they returned to pose to be photographed.
In the lounge of acts, one of the pupils of the center Prince of Asturias, Carlos Cruz, gave the welcome to Don Felipe and Dona Letizia in representation of all the persons attended by Asnimo and expressed to them their desire to be 'independent' and to be unrolled by autonomy.
In his speech of gratefulness, the doctor Juan Perera emphasized the labor recovered by Asnimo in its 30 years of existence, in which he has attended to 900 persons and has contributed to the scientific study of the disease in collaboration with universities and foreign centers.
Likewise, it highlighted that the group inhabitant of the Balearic Islands has collaborated in the foundation of associations of national and international character.
