King opens factory for Hikma Pharmaceutical in Portugal
AMMAN (JT) - His Majesty King Abdullah opened in Portugal on Tuesday a drug factory affiliated to Amman-based Hikma Pharmaceuticals.
. . . The factory, the second of Hikma Pharmaceuticals in Portugal, started production in 2008 with annual production capacity of 65 million packages, according to Petra.
The production capacity of the factory, specialised in manufacturing sterile injectable products, is expected to increase to one million per year.
The company, established in 1979, has branches in the US, Portugal, Italy, Ukraine, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia and exports its products to 50 markets across the world.

Jordan, Portugal set to boost partnership
AMMAN (JT) - His Majesty King Abdullah met with Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates on Tuesday to discuss bilateral cooperation and efforts to launch serious negotiations to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
At the meeting with Socrates, King Abdullah voiced his keenness to build a strong partnership with Portugal, noting that there is great potential for cooperation, especially in the fields of renewable energy, ICT, pharmaceuticals and tourism.

Queen Rania commends programmes implemented in Lisbon’s Miguel Torga School
AMMAN (JT) - Her Majesty Queen Rania on Tuesday commended education-focused programmes supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation during a visit to the Miguel Torga Secondary School in Lisbon.
The foundation promotes a wide range of projects in the fields of art, education, charity and science including the Generation Project launched in 2005 as a pilot initiative providing training to local children living in disadvantaged communities.
. . . During her visit to Lisbon, Her Majesty also addressed the issue of women’s rights and gender parity during an interview with SIC Television.
