Gates has been very frustrated with the fact the west are not turning out enough good IT engineers. He has said he could hire hundreds immediately. This seems to be a good partnership, with an upside for both Mr. Gates and the Jordanian people!

Late Wednesday, Gates flew to Jordan, where he met with King Abdullah II and his wife Queen Rania at a conference hall on the shores of the Dead Sea.

Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah arrived in Madina Munawarah on Sunday where they visited Prophet Mohammad Grand Mosque and performed the night prayer there. The King and the Queen arrived in Madina after they had performed Umrah (smaller pilgrimage) in Mecca earlier on the day.

Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania on Monday gather with Zyoud Basic School for Girls students. King Abdullah and Queen Rania visited the Zyoud Basic School for Boys in Wadi Al Seer, where they distributed coats to schoolchildren in the first to sixth grades. The event started off a campaign to distribute 700,000 coats to children at public, military and UNRWA schools. The King also donated furniture to the schools. The Ministry of Education, meanwhile, will distribute 4,000-5,000 heaters this year to schools around the country. `I am very glad because the King gave us coats as a gift. I like the dark-blue with the Jordanian flag,' sixth grader Issam Harayzeh told The Jordan Times. Boys were given blue coats and girls red.

King calls on authorities to invest in orphans' talents

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday said that orphans leaving care organisations should either complete their higher education or learn vocational skills to secure them a decent life as grown-ups.
In statements to the press on the sidelines of the annual iftar hosted by the King for about 1,000 orphans from 24 orphanages, Minister of Social Development Abdullah Oweidat said King Abdullah had instructed concerned authorities to place more focus on exploring and investing in the talents of orphan students in these centres.

I've yet to find another muslim Royal Family that seems to do as much as the Hashemite Familyto help the poor and needy during Ramadan. Moreover it seems tio be quite a long-standing tradition and not just a recent development, it's really encouraging.
I particularly like the coat distribution, it's a wondrful idea.

I agree. I love the hands-on and personal approach the JRF has, not just from the King and Queen but many members of this family. I cant think of any other royal family, Muslim or non-Muslim that has this level of personal interaction with its subjects. I think the feeding of orphans during Ramadan, distributing coats during winter and other similar gestures are wonderful but to be personally involved in the process is even better. The fact that the royal family is out and about especially during Ramadan and sharing meals with ordinary and underprivileged Jordanians is so commendable. I'd love to see other royal families participate in similar activities.

I agree with you , Hashemite family do great jobe in to help the poor and needy during Ramdadan
but I don't think they the only muslim Royal Family do that , I believe that a lot of muslims royals family do the same if not more to help poor not just in Ramadan but also in the rest of the year .
and I don't blame you or any one to not know that because those royals don't put all what they do on the media although I think they should do that because it may encourage other to do the same .

Thousands of impoverished Jordanian families reeling from recent price hikes are expected to receive precious royal assistance, including roofs over their heads, during the holy fasting Muslim month of Ramadan.



The royal court has announced a series of measures to alleviate the financial burden faced by many Jordanians since an unpopular decision last month to raise oil prices for the second time in months.



Breaking with tradition, this year the court will not organise its daily lavish iftar meals to break the dawn-to-dusk fast which it usually holds for officials, diplomats, the media, tribal leaders and other figures. Instead the money spent on these huge events will be handed out to feed the poor.

There's no significance to Rania's choice. One can wear any color while at Mecca but because it is a religious pilgrimage the majority tend to go for sober colors (black,white). I hope that helped. Curiosity leads to better understanding and more knowledge, something that's desperately needed in today's world.

You're very welcome. In Mecca the sexes are not strictly segregated like in other places because it is extremely difficult to keep apart when there are thousands and millions of pilgrims. Men and women are asked, however, to maintain modesty and limit inter-gender communication with non-related people. For women, they must have a mahram, a male relative or husband, accompanying them OR they may travel with a group of trustworthy women (their respected elders preferably) for safety reasons. It must be noted that the pilgrimage to Mecca is quite safe but women are recommended to travel in large groups for further security. Men and women are expected to perform the same duties.

Like I said in my previous post, the pilgrimage is very safe but being in a group is better than being alone in any case and anywhere in the world because it provides more security. Just look at the case of the American girl in Aruba; when she left her group, she went missing and nobody knows what happened to her. Travelling in a group in Mecca just provides a sort of mini community and a great network of support. I haven't heard of anything bad happening to women in Mecca and perhaps that's mainly because, like you said, it is a sacred journey and everyone is trying to make the best of it.
