State visit from Portugal to Belgium Begins

At the invitation of their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, began today, Tuesday October 17, a four-day state visit to Belgium.
Due to yesterday’s evening attack in Brussels, the programme of the visit was adjusted and all the outdoor ceremonies were cancelled.
Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde officially welcomed the President during a ceremony that took place at the Royal Palace.
Inside the Palace the King and the Queen and the President posed for the official photos the golden book was signed by the President.
In the evening, at the Castle of Laeken, the Royal Couple hosted a state banquet for the President.
At state banquet, a minute’s silence was observed to remember the two Swedish victims of yesterday’s attack.
