Queen Máxima in Côte d’Ivoire: June 12-14

As a special advocate of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for inclusive finance for development, Her Majesty Queen Máxima paid a working visit to the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire from Sunday June 12 to Tuesday 14.
On Sunday June 12, upon the arrival at the International Airport in Abidjan, capital of Côte d’Ivoire, the Queen was welcomed by Patrick Achi, the Prime Minister.
The Queen started the first day on Côte d’Ivoire, on Monday June 13, with a meeting at the United Nations (UN) hearquarter with the UN team in Côte d’Ivoire.
Then Queen Maxima began with the field visits and the first stop was in Abobo, in the suburb of the capital, where she was welcomed by dancing and singing women in traditional dress. The Queen met with several women who make money by selling of eggs.
Afterwards Queen Maxima paid a visit to the headquarter of CARE, a non-governmental humanitarian agency that aims to fight global poverty. In particular the Queen was informed about Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), a 12-year strategy which goal is “supporting 50 million women and girls – and 65 million people overall – to form savings groups by 2030”.

Then Queen Maxima visited a cashew nut factory. This factory works with the help of the digital platform Wi-Agri that offers “extended, secure and transparent transactions between buyers and sellers”. The Queen toured the factory and was informed about the work.
In the afternoon, at Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Economy and Finance, Queen Maxima attended several bilateral meetings with members of the government. Later the Queen attended a panel during the AFRICA CEO FORUM Annual Summit and she talked about “the importance of digital to inclusive finance for development in Africa”.
Today, Tuesday June 14, last day of the working visit to Côte d’Ivoire, Queen Maxima was busy with several meetings.
The Queen met with the Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, Adama Coulibaly and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani to talk about the promotion of financial services accessible to all. With the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Amadou Coulibaly, the Queen discussed “ways to enable digital and financial inclusion in Côte d’Ivoire”.
In early afternoon Queen Maxima had meetings with Meyliet Kone, Vice President of Côte d’Ivoire, Patrick Achi, the Prime Minister. At the Ministry of Trade and Industry the Queen met with Minister Souleymane Diarrassouba to discuss about the promotion of Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The Queen wrapped the working visit in Côte d’Ivoire with a meeting with First Lady Dominique Ouattara to discuss about financial inclusion, the digitalization of women’s access to services.
In the evening Queen Maxima left Côte d’Ivoire heading to Senegal, the next stop of her working visit.
