Dutch State Visit to Indonesia – Day Two: Yogyakarta

On the second day of the state visit, on March 11, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima moved to the city of Yogyakarta, in the Island of Java.
Upon their arrival the Royal Couple was officially welcomed by the Sultan Hamengkubuwono X and his wife Ratu Hemas in the Palace, the Kraton Nga Yogyakarta Hadiningrat.
During the welcoming ceremony was performed the traditional Lawung Ageng dance then the King and the Queen posed for the official photos with the Sultan and his family and a lunch was hosted by the Sultan.
After lunch King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima paid a visit to “Connected Kampoeng”, a neighborhood with 150 residents that have been able to improve their living and living conditions together thanks to the arrival of the internet.
Later the Royal Couple visited the Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). The visit was focused on scientific cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands and also marked a new phase of collaboration between the two countries. The King and the Queen met with students and talked about the Innovative Academy that encourages creative collaboration for the creation of digital startups.
In the evening King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visited the temple of Prambanan, a 9th-century Hindu temple compound.
The Royalc Couple attended a seminar with various religious leaders focused on their activities to promote religious tolerance in Indonesia and in the region. Then they toured the temple complex and they attend a part of a traditional Ramayana performance and a performance by the modern music group Rubah di Selatan and posed for the official photos.
