Philippe and Mathilde Continue in Mumbai Their State Visit to India
On the fourth day of the state visit to India, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde moved on to Mumbai, capital city of the Indian State of Maharashtra.
Upon their arrival, the Royal Couple was received by the Governor of the State of Maharashtra, Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao, and his wife Vinodha at Malabar Hill, the Residence of the Governor. After a meeting, the Governor hosted a lunch. In the afternoon the King and the Queen had a separate program.

King Philippe, along with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Didier Reynders, had a meeting with the Indian Minister of Commerce Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu followed by a roundtable entitled “Best practices from the diamond business to foster global socioeconomic development”.

The Queen, at the Consulate General, met with the children from the Lion School. The children performed the national anthem in sign language and then the “Handwashing song”. This song is part of an UNICEF Hygiene Promotion that aims to motivate the practice of good hygiene, especially hand-washing with soap. Queen Mathilde is the Honorary President of UNICEF Belgium.

Then the Queen had a meeting with Pooja Taparia founder and CEO of Arpan, a non-governmental organizations based in Mumbai that works on the issue of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA). Mrs Taparia informed the Queen about Personal Safety Education (PSE), a project that aims to enabling and empowering children within schools, institutions and through workshop to gain information that prevent the risk of sexual abuse. Afterwards Queen Mathilde participated at the closing of the seminar entitled “Life Sciences and Healthcare.
In the evening the Royal Couple attended a reception hosted by the Port of Antwerp.
